1. The Lahore Resolution (also known as Pakistan Resolution) Passed on  23 March 1940.

   During the annual session of the All-India Muslim League in Lahore (at Minto Park, now Iqbal Park), the resolution was moved by A.K. Fazlul Huq (then Premier of Bengal) and unanimously adopted.  It called for autonomous and sovereign units for Muslim-majority areas in northwestern and eastern zones of British India.  

 This is widely regarded as the formal demand for a separate homeland for Muslims, laying the ideological foundation for the creation of Pakistan in 1947.  

 Although the word "Pakistan" was not used in the resolution text, it later became popularly known as the Pakistan Resolution (a term coined by the Indian press).  

 Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah presided over the session, making it a landmark under his leadership.

2. Adoption of Pakistan's first Constitution On 23 March 1956.

 Pakistan became the Islamic Republic of Pakistan (the first country in the world to adopt this title).  

  This marked the transition from Dominion status to a full republic.  

  The 1956 Constitution was later abrogated, but the date remains symbolically important.

Because of these two events, 23 March holds dual importance: as **Pakistan Resolution Day and formerly as Republic Day.
